Taking Courses Elsewhere

  1. Click here to download the George Mason Request to Take Course Elsewhere form.
  • Determine which course you would like to take elsewhere and the equivalent course here at Mason.
  • State the reason for your request.

The College of Humanities and Sciences has limited grounds to approve such requests. Reasons considered for granting permission to take courses elsewhere could include the following:

    • A suitable course not available at GMU in a timely sequence
    • Living out of the area for the summer
    • Employment hours that directly and unavoidably conflict with a specific and required course
  • Reasons NOT considered for granting permission to take courses elsewhere:

    • Course is less expensive elsewhere
    • Commuting convenience
    • Unusual or novel nature of course elsewhere
    • Class size is smaller elsewhere
    • Scheduling convenience
  1. Send the signed form and a course description and/or course syllabus from the institution to the ADJ office at 10900 University Blvd., MS 4F4, Manassas, VA 20110. Or fax the form to (703) 993-8316.

  2. If approved, your request will be sent to the Academic Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

  3. You will be notified by the ADJ office or the Academic Dean if your request has been approved. This process can take up to several weeks, so plan ahead.
