Center for Justice, Leadership & Management (CJLM website)

George Mason University's Center for Justice Leadership and Management provides training and research assistance to policy makers and professionals in the justice field.

The key elements of the CJLM's mission are

  • Conduct research in the justice field that contributes to basic scientific knowledge that is useful to policy makers and practioners in this area.
  • Provide professional training and technical assistance to justice organizations, their leaders, and managers in Northern Virginia, throughout the Commonwealth, the Nation, and internationally.
  • Disseminate state-of-the-art knowledge and research findings to the public, professionals, and policy makers through conferences, web sites, newsletters, seminars and policy forums, and other appropriate venues.

Center for Justice, Law & Society  (CJLS website)

The Center for Justice, Law and Society links top social scientists with policymakers and practitioners in law, judicial administration and legal development.  CJLS faculty and students are drawn from multiple disciplines, all brought together by a common interest in making academe more useful to practitioners and enriching academic research with the experience of practice.  CJLS has three core objectives:

  • Advancing research and scholarly debate on questions of law and legal behavior.
  • Bridging the gap between academe and practice so that policymakers and practitioners are better informed by the insights of academic research, and academicians have a better understanding of how the concepts they study behave in practice.
  • Assisting policymakers and practitioners by applying empirical research to practical problems in the field.

Center for Evidence Based-Crime Policy  (CEBCP website)

The Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy seeks to advance scientifically rigorous research in the area of criminal justice and criminology and to serve as an informational link to practitioners and the policy communities.

CEBCP engages in a wide variety of projects, including primary research on criminological and criminal justice issues as well as evaluation of interventions for outcome effectiveness.  Of special interest to the center are:

  • a place-based focus on explaining crime and developing criminal justice interventions;
  • using rigorous methods (especially experimentation) to evaluate and assess crime prevention interventions in the areas of policing and corrections; and
  • actively seeking out avenues to disseminate information to the public, practitioners, and policy communities.
